Introduction
Ivo held the Lordship of Clachestone in 1086. He had a small motte and bailey hall or manorhouse with 3 or 4 fishponds, and set about building a church, which he gave to Belvoir Priory in 1090; it became their most valuable endowment. With the church he gave one pond and land for a house for Edric, the monks' man who would collect the tithe. A charter of 1100 records his name and instructions for the tithe to be paid at his door.
The church was dedicated to St Remigius. His namesake had been appointed the first Bishop of Lincoln.
Ivo's manorhouse was rebuilt in C16th as a modest farmhouse, but was demolished c.1890.
Edric's house, strictly speaking a grange, was demolished and rebuilt as a gentry house between 1575 and 1610, saving his medieval doorway. It is now known as the Old Manor House.
